80's night at One Eyed Jacks
80's night is still on tonight at One Eyed Jacks for those who may need something to do. $1 high life as usual and probably very festive gogo dancers. :)

Jacks is also doing 80's night for New Years Eve. It's an 80's prom theme with a photo booth and of course $1 high life and champagne at midnight.

Special Children's Story Time at Latter Library
Kids out of school and looking for something to do? Out of town guest with children that need free entertainment? We've got a suggestion!

Special Story Time with Beth Finke
    Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 10:30 AM
    Latter Library

Beth Finke (author, teacher & journalist) will read her children's book Hanni and Beth: Safe & Sound.

Hanni and Beth: Safe & Sound is the story of how Beth, who is blind, travels safely around the city-to work, shopping, even to baseball games-with the help of Hanni, a specially-trained Golden/Labrador Retriever. It's a touching tale of mutual devotion and teamwork.

Hanni and Beth: Safe & Sound includes factual information about how Hanni was raised and trained, how Beth and Hanni learned to work together as a team, and what it's like to be blind.

    Stolen Items.
So..... on Saturday before the Saints game, my car was stolen.

I was parked 1/2 block from Poydras on Bolivar St on the street right next to the LSU Medical Center.

But unfortunately, what was in the car is worth so much more to me than the car itself.
(not that I wouldn't love to have my car back...)

If anyone sees any of these random things around the city....let me know. I would just LOVE to have a chat with anyone with my stuff.

93 Dodge Dynasty, Maroon, License plate "SIP 007"

Nikon D90 with a Black and Gold Fluer De Lis Camera Strap. 18 - 55mm lens on the camera.

    Nikon 55 - 300mm lens.

Lowepro Sling Shoulder Camera Bag, black

40 gig black ipod in a leather flip case. (it has the complete season of Firefly on it!)

    Black leather jacket

Car Charger for a Blackberry Storm

Western Digital 80gig portable hard drive with a big "World of Warcraft" sticker on it

    Bostich Pneumatic Nail Gun

Under Armor Red and Black Wide Receiver Gloves

    Nike Blue and Black Cleats

    A Saints Sweat Shirt

A "Saints vs Chargers in Wembley Stadium" Scarf

And finally, a Harrahs Work id.

I know I am grasping at straws, but I have to try any and every avenue. Craigslist, Ebay and Pawnshop searching is only going so far.

    Corrosion Christmas Book Drive
This Wednesday, Corrosion is starting a Christmas tradition. We're asking everyone to bring a book or two for donation to Louisiana Books 2 Prisoners. We all have plenty, really, even when things are so economically depressing, so lets consider the spirit of Christmas and do something for people is far less fortunate circumstances.

You can check these guys out at http://lab2p.wordpress.com/.

Vendetta, Alekzandr and DedSexi will be spinning the best and most varied goth-industrial, like we do. And the drinks are cheap and plentiful. Like they are.

So merry Christmas everyone. We'll see you there. Bring out your books!

Corrosion is proudly hosted at 1135 Decatur St, the Rubyfruit Jungle. Doors at 10, no cover.

    Traffic Court
Has anyone recently gone to New Orleans Traffic Court?  I will be out of town on my Appear By date and wanted to know how I could reschedule or if I could show up earlier than the date they gave me and take care of it then?  Can someone else (like a friend or parent) appear in my place? Do I need to show up at a certain time? I know the hours of operation are 8am-4pm but it doesn't specify a time on my ticket and I wasn't arrested.  Their website is worthless and doesn't provide much information.  They only provide you with one phone number which no one ever seems to answer.  I've left multiple messages over the past month and no one has called me back, heh.  Does anyone else have a different phone number to the court?  How much are court costs in Orleans Parish?  I'm not from nola and I was the designated driver for my friend's bday, they were telling me where to go and they took me down a one way, so I have a ticket for going down a One Way and Rear View Obstruction since we had too many people in the car.  I'd really like to keep it off of my record b/c my insurance said I'll be paying an extra $50/month for the next 35 months! If yall have any information on your experiences in traffic court, where to go, who to call, etc. I would REALLY appreciate it.  My appear by date is Dec 29th. Thank you!!

    Benefit dinner
Looking for something to do Sunday night because the Saints are playing tonight??? JohnPaul's on Elysian Fields is having a benefit dinner and (aging) drag show to raise money for Slut Puppies alum T-Paul (aka Ken Gue).

Ken was suffering from some internal bleeding back in October, when the doctors went in to repair some intestinal tears they did some bloodwork. The day after the tears were repaired, he lost his job (as a home hospice nurse). There were some abnormalities in Ken's blood, so the docs called him back for more tests.

Two weeks after his 62nd birthday, he was diagnosed with lymphnoma. Lung cancer. Without treatment, Ken has six months. With treatment, he has a 40% chance of beating this disease.

So! Tomorrow evening at 5:30 PM there will be a benefit spaghetti dinner followed by a drag show at 7PM. Bring your ones, fives, tens and hundreds to help raise money for Ken's COBRA payments and treatment.

    Divorce lawyers
Does anyone have any good (or bad) experiences with divorce lawyers in the New Orleans area? I'm looking for a recommendation, but also names of those to stay away from.

    Thanks!

p.s. This is not for me, seeing as I'm not married. I'm asking for someone not on LJ (so don't bother speculating, those of you who know me!).

    A couple questions
    First:

I think I might've gotten snapped by one of those cameras on Jackson, or it was the guy next to me, I'm not sure. But, I was only going a couple miles over and have only had one other ticket in 6 years. I know in VA that sometimes if you show up for the court date the judge will throw it out if you have few or no previous offenses. Is it worth it to go through that down here or should I just pay the ticket?

    Second:

I'm looking for housing, hopefully around the Uptown area. I'm 22, female, employed and potentially come with a cat. I'm quiet and respectful of others and love to cook. Any of y'all looking for a roommate or have any suggestions?

How the Goths Stole Christmas IV - in one week
While the flood waters rise on Oak Street and bodies, debris and submerged cars begin to float past the doorway of Z'Otz, we take a moment to contemplate the festivities of next weekend.

Shadow Gallery's ultra-spectacular third anniversary party will be next Saturday at our enormous, lovely new home, Maison Musique. Leah Kahn, newly returned to the city after her tour of Europe and the Mediterranean, will put on a display of fire and dance to keep the winter outside. At 1 a.m. we will pause while you, dear readers, dance the Mamuschka, and of course throughout the night we will provide the very creepiest and most danceworthy gothic and industrial music to drive away the crass commercialism and miserable sanctimony of the season. Our special guest DJ will be Eugene Oubliette, currently of Katamari Pharmacy and Action Action Reaction, and of the local goth-industrial scene since the long-ago speakeasy days of the Convent.

The flyer and some images of the new venue (partly taken during The Local Skank's performance last night) lie below the cut.
